Tailgate is not a child you goddamn idiots he was alive for who knows how long before falling down the hole. His arc isn’t supposed to say he’s a child it’s to signify how naive he is because he was out of action for so long Good Lord.

firstly, i’d like to say i totally agree with you: Tailgate is 100% adult, it was confirmed transformers don’t have “child” state – they are born as adults. however – we do know how long tailgate lived before he was buried underground – less than 2 weeks:

whispers personally i think he was angry w himself for not having the right words to comfort tailgate.

what DO you say when someones first move after learning they have 3 days left is to come tell you? what does that say about you, about what you mean to them? i think he was really at a loss for words, and instead of comforting him, cyclonus pulled away, and in turn, alienated the only person on the ship that saw anything good in him.

i think him scarring himself up was those feelings surfacing, of frustration and anguish, of immediate, burning regret because he, with all of his experiences and age, really didnt know how to respond, let alone help tailgate deal with it. so he spoke coldly, he shut himself away. maybe it was a way to punish himself for not being better at communicating, and for hurting tailgate in the way he did because of it.

and maybe? it also had something to do with how tailgate said he never really did anything important, how he’d never made a mark, anywhere. cyclonus’ beliefs involve wounds that are not critical to survival being left alone and unrepaired, so he’d always have them, and tailgate would have mattered somewhere, even if only to him.

Its still intensely frustrating that Megatron, who is literal space Hitler (that is not an exaggeration he committed mass genocide over some crazy ideology and had his people perpetrate horrible war crimes, etc) got to have an origin story that portrays him as a tragic misguided underdog (which I am totally not against) and is currently heading to the climax of a huge redemption arc but Starscream is still being written off as ‘’nope he’s just an evil bastard and he was born that way’’.

Let’s not forget that Starscream lived through a 4 million year civil war.

Let’s not forget that throughout those 4 million years he was unable to fully trust or rely on anyone around him.

Let’s not forget that Megatron abused him physically and emotionally.

Let’s not forget that Starscream once idolized Megatron and was eager to serve him, and that only changed when he saw Megatron was failing horribly as a leader and jeopardizing the Decepticon cause.

Let’s not forget that even before the war Starscream was a CC and part of a minority that faced years and years of discrimination and abuse from the majority of society.

LET’S NOT FOR GET THAT HE IS LITERALLY GOING INSANE BECAUSE HE KNOWS EVERYONE HATES HIM, DOESNT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT, AND IS HALLUCINATING DEAD PEOPLE JUST SO HE HAS SOMEONE TO TALK TO. HIS ONLY FREIND IS A FIGMENT OF HIS IMAGINATION.
